Fitness Fanatic Fridays: Jillian Michaels’ Six Week Six Pack Review

Another week, another challenge … I love challenges and have taken to doing the new fad which involves doing squats for 30 days, each day the amount is increased.

I started last night and felt it today for sure. I just finished day two and I feel great for doing it but sore. I have walked for miles this week, did a couch to 5k run, a Jillian Michaels DVD although couldn’t do side planks with foot movement due to pelvis )and some additional abdominal work. I have been tired this week but my eating has been pretty fantastic, you can have a gander on either my meal planning Monday post or head on over to my profile at “My Fitness Pal”.

Whilst I haven’t done as much cardio this week, I’m still very proud of my efforts and I’m raring to go for another week especially as I have lost 1 lb, feel less bloated and have defo lost inches as jeans not as tight!

I hope that next week I can step it up a bit and challenge myself even more by running up hills and building stamina. Hills will really get my heart rate going and help me burn more calories, burning more fat.

It isn’t just me who is feeling the benefit though, Thunderpants is enjoying her walks and being more active! She has started swimming lessons this week and I plan on taking the wee man in to the pool when she is in doing her lessons. She is wanting to be outdoors more, her confidence has grown and she’s eating much better as well! It’s great to get kids involved and you can make it fun by adding things like treasure hunts so that they don’t complain of walking too far etc

Fitness Fanatic Friday’s:Week 2

This week I am writing as the days go on, so that I don’t forget how I’ve felt throughout the week before and after exercise and food.

I managed a run/walk on Saturday morning and used my couch to 5k app as well as my pedometer, as it calculates calories burned. It was a beautiful morning for a run and although tired, it was reading the posts from the others who have joined the linky and seeing other runners posts which made me go out.

After Saturday I haven’t done any exercise as we have had a really busy weekend and I have been very tired but I think I’m shattered as I haven’t done any! It gives me energy, without a doubt and the husband is taking the kids to his mothers tonight for an hour so I’m going to do the couch to 5k& see how it goes.

This week has also seen me cut out alcohol.. I love wine but what’s the point in doing all of that exercise and then drinking? It also makes me hungry and my level of resistance to crap food reduces greatly. I also hate being tired and moody the next day and that’s not fair on the kids.

As for food, the meal planning Monday linky helps out a lot! I’m making very healthy choices, and achieving my goal of eating more fish and discovering that I like non shell fish! So it’s Monday night right now and I am about to get my trainers on to go for a run!

Update:I did a 5k run/walk and felt bloody fantastic afterwards although I did go over my ankle and skin my knees, ha ha!

Wednesday: I’m shattered but feel I can cope with less sleep.the other thing is, when I start exercising after a break, I feel as though I’m getting a cold so in not running today. I did walk approx 3km’s and might do one of Jillian’s work
Thursday: I didn’t do a workout vid yesterday as I was absolutely shattered and if I wanted a run today, I needed to listen to my body. I’m up early with the wee man (04:30am) and I plan to do nothing but rest and nap with him as I want to do a longer walk/run tonight. I plan on consuming a lot of veg today and may go for another seafood stir fry due to the energy it gives me. I shouldn’t be eating white rice but I like it and I’m not going to cut it out of my diet just yet.

Friday: I have been up since 04:00am as the wee man was snuffly but surprisingly I’m not as tired as I would have been if I hadn’t been exercising. I was still reluctant to do a 5k, thought I’d only make it for a mile but I persevered and I did it faster and a bit over 5k. I kept thinking of the glass of wine waiting for me when I got home but I’m opting for tea instead… Oh my! This is not me! Ha ha. Anyhow, I feel great for getting out and I will either walk to school and back or do something physical in the morning:)

I have linked up with Carley from @asummerfull and we have decided after seeing how many people share the love for Jillian Michaels,and fitness that we would create a place where we could all link up weekly for Fitness Fanatic Friday’s, and post progress pics/measurements/weight etc.Some people are doing the shred, some the abdominal work out and some are combining with running. Whatever you choose to do, we can all discuss and motivate one another and share hints, tips etc.

The video’s are available on line so there is no need to purchase them unless you want to, we will share the direct links or you can search for them on You Tube yourself. We will also share apps such as “My Fitness Pal, C25k and others which help when needing a motivational boost or different ways to exercise/lose weight/tone up.

I will be posting before and after pictures. I start the shred tonight and have also walked for approx 1.5hrs today. My eating is also back on track and I look forward to getting back in to some old clothes.

Taking Control

Wow, looking back at this category is like looking at a completely different person. A year has passed (roughly), since I last exercised properly and its about time I started to shake things up now that I am 6 weeks post natal. I’m not trying to put myself under any sort of pressure because I don’t believe in diets or losing weight fast.

I see it as a lifestyle change, for anyone who exercises on a regular basis you will know what I mean when I describe the feeling you get after a work out, when you feel your body developing muscle, the feeling of the endorphins, achievement,etc. It is addictive and an amazing stress reducer not to mention how much better you will feel health wise when combining it with healthy eating.

I have decided to set myself small goals, thinks such as having fish twice a week, drinking pints of water and eliminating diet coke, making sure I get a walk in every day, doing one of the Jillian Michaels DVD’s a week until I can start the shred (waiting on pelvis repairing itself), and also getting out for a run once a week or more if I feel up to it but at the same time , no pressure as its still very early days.

Also, I will be doing things for me .. a hot soak in a bubble bath with candles and the bathroom door shut, reading a book on the kindle, a massage once a month, dinner or coffee with a friend minus the children and introducing more color into my wardrobe. I’m also going to hunt through charity shops and see what treasures that I can find clothing wise. I have already found a nice diesel dress which I need to lose a bit of weight for and am now on the look out for a pair of boots to go with it.

Biggest Challenge In the Gym

I was on twitter last night and I saw that @apregnantpause, burned over 800 calories a few days ago and since I had the day to myself and I was taking a break just for me, that i would use it as a day devoted to the gym.

I dropped Thunderpants off at nursery and then went to get some lunch before heading over to the gym, I felt very motivated today as though it was time to take it up a notch and really burn some calories. I had a plan in my head of doing a 5k and then move on to weights but my plan changed a bit. I did the usual run/walk and increasing the incline as it really helps when i can’t run anymore but I’m still burning. I also started running at an incline and I think my thighs are going to be super sore in the morning but I think I have finally cracked it in what works for me and whats going to tone me up and lose the pounds.

I also went on the bike again, twice as when I went on to the rowing machine, the screen didn’t come up and I wouldn’t have known how many calories that I was burning. I also used the cross trainer which i really detest but stayed on for only 15minutes as I just cant be bothered with it at all. Exercise is supposed to be fun and not a chore, I think people get in to the trap that its something to get out of the way but when you really find things that you like, the feeling after is just so amazing.

I think tomorrow, depending on how sore I am , I may do weights and do the Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. But I will be sensible and listen to my body because I really can’t afford to be sick again, no do i obviously not want to be. I think that if I stop taking so much on , I can get to the gym more regularly and start achieving my goal of weight loss, possibly reach my goal by August which will be great as I have a friends wedding and I want to find a really nice dress without feeling like I need to hide the bingo wings ect. I guess it’s all about learning to love your body but accepting it as well.

I hope to be able to post some progress pictures in a few weeks , to see how much change there has been to motivate myself even more. It’s a big thing for me to do that, but it’s also kind of liberating too.
