This morning I had a reason to have a spring in my step as I have been waiting in anticipation for the release of”The Simple Things” magazine! I had come upon the Simple Things after seeing a friend “Like” it via Facebook one day and was instantly drawn to its embrace of a simpler life. I started following them via twitter as well as Facebook, and also spent hours on their website (http://www.thesimplethings.com/) browsing through their amazing info that they had from knitting wee tea and egg cosies to making your own cakes and appreciating little things such as enjoying that morning cup of tea before anyone gets up and basking in the silence to remembering how precious it is to receive letters via the mail.
So off I went to purchase the first edition and I was not let down at all, it has given me some inspiration for Christmas gift ideas for the family as well as ideas to do with Thunderpants such as going into the field and spotting the different types of trees that we have around us. It is appreciating those things that we take for granted and its also a very good teaching aid for the little ones as well as for myself. I haven’t read the whole edition yet, I want to savor it and appreciate the stories that they have obviously taken a lot of time to write and it deserves to be savored, because it is an amazing magazine that would benefit a lot of people. Life would be a little less complicated if we did just slow down , things are too fast paced these days and it means that we just let life pass us by.
I feel that the magazine also encourages community by suggesting that you embrace it, become more involved and you cant go wrong with that in my opinion! We seem to lack the involvement of community these days and people don’t seem to even know their neighbors anymore which is sad especially when you hear the older generation talk about how it was for them in the past. I often wonder what went wrong and why are we so resistant to involve our self with those who live beside, below or above us? I know with things such as anti social behavior(been involved personally) it can be difficult and near impossible with some but most people are pretty easy to get a long with and you never know when you might need some help from the person close by.
I will stop writing just now as its nearly time to do the school run but I think today it will be filled with picture taking, looking at the trees round about us and possibly trying one of the many amazing recipes that the magazine has to offer. I can tell though that when I finish it I will be waiting in anticipation for the following months mag. So go out and buy it, start living again and appreciating what we have in life, its simple really!
