Getting in shape: Grooving Mums inspiration

I haven’t had a lot of time to write about what I have been doing due to my usual commitments so tonight I am taking the time to do some writing and nice things for myself.

I have lost 4lbs, this is through healthy eating as I haven’t had any time to get to the gym in over a week but I have been walking a bit more which has probably helped. I also haven’t had many night shifts at work and I do believe that this has contributed to my weight loss as well because I haven’t been eating at irregular times of the night. I start nights again next week but I have a plan in mind of just eating fruit and veg on the shift and not to be tempted by the vending machine 🙂

I have read so many fantastic blogs in the past few days about people losing and it is really inspiring. This year for me is not just about losing but toning and changing my shape and having a bit more muscle. I will be doing the Jillian Michaels “30 day shred” on the days that I don’t make the gym for the weights and when at the gym , I will be using the treadmill and possibly getting in some spin classes. Its hard when you work shifts , to get in and part of me though about changing gyms again but I have a friend who i go with and its good for motivation and a catch up. I also like that it is closer to home and even though a bit more expensive, I have always felt comfortable there and they have a pool as well which the other one doesn’t.

I look forward to updating …. i also will post progress pictures… i have been using the “My fitness pal” app which I have used for the last year on and off and its pretty good as it gives you a calorie goal for the day and you log everything that you eat as well as your exercise. I find it is much better than dieting, and have never agreed with diets anyway. There is no quick fix and I hate that things such as slimmers world and weight watchers as they  seem to exploit people. There is no complicated theory for weight loss, just work at it and it will come but most importantly, do it for yourself and not for anyone else.

Body Combat

I hauled my butt out of bed yesterday morning to meet exercise pal at 06:45am, for what I can only describe as sheer hell. I do not enjoy body combat, I though that i was going to body pump…. but they darn well changed the schedule and I didn’t know.

So off we went, I am uncoordinated at the best of times and I must have looked like a hippo trying to ballet dance, suppose that’s the best way to describe me in an exercise class.. I was clock watching the whole way when I wasn’t trying to stifle the laughter which was nearly escaping me every time I looked at the woman in front of me.

Don’t get me wrong, I admire her effort and enthusiasm but I thought she was going to take off at one point! I was worried her heart was going to give out and that i would need to practice my skills as a life saver ! I think I would have had a heart attack!

I suppose it wasn’t all that bad though, the sense of achievement after a class is well worth it and it does set you up for the day…. although yesterday when i got home,thunderpants and I had a nice bath, and then got into our PJ’s and watched Christmas movies all day long 🙂  I hope to get in again tomorrow… I normally go every day but have been trying to set some sort of routine up since starting these night shifts which is proving difficult.

Gym day 2 & 3

I am lucky that I have a gym buddy who can come with me on the days that I don’t feel like going and who motivates me and makes me go.

We managed to get there at 8:30 as both of us had other things on, i was sleeping all day after coming off of night shift and my friend is a teacher so this time suited both of is. We went straight for the treadmill as we are both keen runners (?) she is much better than I am but I am getting better and still have that love/hate relationship.  we both did 3k and then jumped into the pool for a steam room and hot tub before it shut at 10pm.

I managed to also get in yesterday afternoon on my own for a swim, I was still choked up with my cold so opted for a swim instead of a lot of cardio as I think itis making the cold linger.

All in all, I am enjoying being back and I hope to get out for a run tonight.


Due to working schedule being changed, having the cold, finishing my course(in a few days), graduating from my other course, volunteering and family life… PHEW….. I haven’t had much time to exercise just due to sheer exhaustion.

So tonight I managed after sleeping all day , to get in. It took a lot of will power as I was on night shift last night but I NEEDED to Continue reading “Finally!”
